Well our charter flight to Rio was delayed by 24 hours but it didn't happen until I was on my way to Newark. After getting in about 10:30 pm and waiting for our bags for a couple hours we left for our hotel in New York. Several of us are at the same hotel so we figured we would be tourists for the day. We had a great walking tour of Times Square, Central Park, and the 9-11 Memorial. It was fun but we are all ready to get to Rio and explore a new city. We are scheduled to get to Rio at 10am and then we will go to work. I hope to report tomorrow that we are in Rio!
I just got off of a conference call with my Olympic bosses and co-workers. Now I am excited to go to Rio! I haven't really been thinking too much about heading to these games and I am not sure why. But I am excited to go to a new continent, country and city. Our bosses told us that they have had great drinking water (even ice) at the hotels, work and restaurants. Yes, some things are not ready but that has been the case with all the other Olympic Games I have been to as well.
They are also going to arrange a tour of Rio sites for us on Sunday after we get to town. I was hoping that that was going to happen since we have done that in the past and they are always so informative. The area where we will be staying is a new area, in Barra, not far from most of the Olympic venues. It is a short bus ride or about a 30 minute walk. There is a mall very close to our hotel that has a few restaurants and lots of shopping. To go to the Ipanema area there is a bus from the IBC (International Broadcast Center) and they have lots of culture and dining. I will post my experiences almost daily while I am in Rio. Please feel free to send me your questions. I would love to answer them if I can. I love to get the questions from people since it gives me a topic for a blog. Enjoy the games! |
